BNY Mellon has announced the appointment of Imad Abukhlal as head of Middle East and Africa of BNY Mellon Investment Management Emea. In this role, he has responsibility for the development and management of all business capabilities across the region.

Based in Dubai, Abukhlal reports to Peter Paul Pardi, CEO of Asset Management Emea and global head of distribution at BNY Mellon Investment Management.

Joining from Western Asset Management, Abukhlal has over 18 years’ experience as an investment manager and was most recently senior executive officer and head of the Dubai office. He was responsible for distribution, client service and marketing for Middle East, Africa and Central Asia and between 2000 and 2008 established the firm’s Middle East business.

He has also worked at Lyras Financial Services (a multi-family office) as an analyst and portfolio manager focused on investing across various asset classes including fixed income, equities and currencies.

“In addition to the expanded geographical coverage and institutional clients, Abukhlal is also responsible for building out additional client segments as well as heading up the region’s investment management team,” said Pardi.

Abukhlal holds a bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from Westminster University, an Msc in Ocean Engineering from University College London and an Msc in Shipping Trade and Finance from Cass Business School.
