TGE confirms interest in Tocom merger
Yoshiaki Watanabe, president of TGE, admitted that talks were ongoing.
While TGE has previously denied that it is seeking a merger
with Tocom, Tadashi Ezaki, chief executive of Japan’s largest commodity bourse,
said back in March he would be interested in listing three of TGE’s most active
futures.
Speculation has surrounded Japan’s commodity exchanges in recent years. Market participants have cited a number of reasons for
the decline of the market, but chief amongst them is the fragmentation of the
country’s domestic commodity market into four commodity bourses.
